By connecting to your domain and requesting the necessary information, this test will determine whether your website (and ultimately the server on which your website is hosted) has gzip or brotli enabled. It will also provide you with some additional information, such as the file size of the original version of the web page you are testing and how much you (might) benefit from using gzip compression.
What is the purpose of gzip compression?
Gzip compression shrinks web files (mostly HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files) to a fraction of their original size, sometimes up to 70%-80%. This much smaller compressed version of a file is then sent to the user's browser in place of the larger original file. The user's browser will then automatically decompress the compressed file and serve the original uncompressed file.
How does enabling gzip speed up my website?
Because a compressed file has a much smaller file size (bytes) than the original web file, the website will load faster.
