Nobody enjoys seeing an error message when visiting a website or checking their own. But, before you panic, you should figure out whether it's just down for you, due to, say, configuration issues, or if it's down for everyone. It could be down for everyone due to hosting provider issues, database and/or software issues, DNS issues, or DDoS or other hacker-based attacks.
There are two scenarios in which you will find this tool useful: Your website is inaccessible to a user: Perhaps a visitor contacted your customer service department or posted on social media that they were having trouble accessing your website. Before rushing down to the IT department, you can use our handy tool to perform a quick check to see if the web server is externally available and actively responding. If the website is unavailable to everyone, you can take the necessary steps to restore it. If the problem is only on the user's end, you can give them advice (for example, to clear their cache) so they can access the website. The following website is inaccessible: You type in the URL of a website you want to visit, and voilà! You receive an error message indicating that the website is unavailable. The tool will determine whether the problem is on your end, such as connectivity, or if it is external, and thus beyond your control.

Once you've confirmed that your website is truly down, contact your web hosting company for an update on what's going on and how long it will take to resolve the downtime. It may also be necessary to update your social media assets to inform your customers that there are technical difficulties and that you are working hard to resolve them.
